Documentary Film
As a creative practitioner, this narrative shows my understanding of the complex interaction between nature, human activity and environmental challenges. I aim to address societal issues, raise awareness and encourage action for sustainability and conservation activities through visual storytelling. In this context, I'd like to highlight two projects that show this interrelation. Coexist - A film that explores the delicate balance between humans and animals in the MAHE Bengaluru Campus. Neeru - Focusing on Bengaluru's current water crisis, the film narrates how the issue has impacted my daily routine. It also traces the stories of three individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds and how their lives are impacted. In both the films, nature plays a central role. Several variables contribute to the ongoing water crisis. Rapid urbanisation reduces lake size, depletes the number of water bodies, disrupts the water cycle and damages ecosystems. Furthermore, encroaching upon forest land for urban expansion limits the soil's ability to absorb and filter rainwater, putting further strain on water supplies. This chain of events not only reduces the supply of clean water, but also increases human-animal conflict as wildlife seeks new habitats and resources. All these factors together create a complicated and pressing situation, highlighting how the environment and humans mutually impact each other.
Reflecting on these experiences, I'm struck by how emotions influence power dynamics in both personal relationships and larger societal systems. Just like how the city's changes affect my daily routine, emotions shape how we react to conflicts and cooperation within hierarchies. It's evident that our actions, no matter how small, are closely connected to the emotions involved in our interactions and the wider environmental context.
