“You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships. God has placed it all around us. It is in everything and anything we might experience.” - Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild I see my works as a path for me to unearth and traverse those relationships that do not stem out of other humans primarily, and are timeless, intuitive and intrinsic, i.e., the relationship with one’s own self and nature. Places rooted in nature and spiritual significance are known to be the catalysts for human psyches to connect with deeper aspects of consciousness and the world. In the process, they instil a sense of interconnectedness and peace within ourselves. Parvati Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India has been one such place for me. Even though I am not a native of Himachal, having lived there for cumulatively three to four months in 2022 and 2023, I feel a deep sense of belonging and accountability towards the region because of the way that place has fostered every part of my being, be it my body or my mind. My chosen line of inquiry falls under the section “From-Towards” in our collective portfolio. The ‘from’ in my case has been this developing awareness about my internal processes and extending that ‘towards’ something greater than myself. My audience is anyone who wishes to explore themselves through landscapes and vice-versa, and people who are in pursuit of finding alternate ways of living (nomadic living) because they don’t feel a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment in material civilizations. It resonates with young students, backpackers and recreational travellers.

How does an emotional attachment to a place influence people's reactions to natural disasters like flash floods and earthquakes? Can this attachment evoke a sense of accountability and responsibility, and if yes, how can these emotions translate into actions?

How does an emotional attachment to a place influence people's reactions to natural disasters like flash floods and earthquakes? Can this attachment evoke a sense of accountability and responsibility, and if yes, how can these emotions translate into actions?

My line of inquiry attempts to capture my personal journey, to be conscious towards the interconnectedness of the natural world and humans, and the consequences of a change in one on the other and vice versa. I have tried to place these concepts at the root of self awareness and how this awareness can extend towards our external environments which have played a major role in shaping our identity.
