Kamamma: a film on my grandmother
Abstract
This project began with my curiosity about a local temple near my home in Bangalore. Initially seen as a quiet place, I was intrigued by its role in the community and its significance to visitors. I observed minimal activity in the first days but was struck by a group of devout women on the third day, inspiring me to capture their devotion on film. However, forming a personal connection with the temple was challenging, until I discovered my grandmother's deep ties to it.
Learning about her active involvement and my late grandfather's role in the construction of this temple shifted my project's focus to her perspective. I spent time with her during significant visits, deepening my understanding of the temple's impact on her life and strengthening our bond. This journey transformed from exploring a temple to a profound exploration of family history and devotion.
