Keyword: Sensitivity

Abstract

Keyword Sensitivity began in Cycle 2, Semester 1 as a part of my Disciplinary Project and was continued in my Independent study at the Just Futures Co-Lab under Dr. Kush Patel. The essay entry comes under the Queer and Trans Syllabus-Bibliography Project taken up by the Lab. This is where my inquiry into embodiment as resistance was cemented, as I was pushed beyond the limits of my bodily knowledge of myself as a transgender and autistic person into the realm of embodied research and practice. I delved into the work of Sara Ahmed about the biography of complaint in an institution and Remi Yergeau’s work on rhetoric, autism, and autoethnography. My entry dealt with the question: “Who has wielded sensitivity to resist dominant power structures that seek to control them and how do they do it?” but it took many months of revising and reframing to learn my relationship to sensitivity, and this essay is only the beginning of that process.
