Understanding the intersection of collaboration and monetisation for young artists.
Abstract
The aim of this project is to analyse the scope of co-creation in a young artist's career and build a framework for collaborative work and subsequent monetisation of their work. This project consists of three artworks and a workshop based on the research.
To start the project I researched this importance of collaboration in a young artist's career and interviewed young creative professionals. Based on their responses, I created an artwork based on data visualisation, with illustrations as a connecting thread. From there, I created a manifesto based on my interpretation of the data. The final artwork in the series was a series of illustrations based on my experiences with collaboration.
The workshop was a two-hour session conducted around the theme of collaboration in art, based on my learnings from this project. It started with an introspective segment, where all participants had to answer questions about their own practices and their relationship with art. The second segment included both internal and external elements, it was a discussion in which participants spoke about their answers and also interacted with others and learnt about them. The third segment was a collaborative segment, with participants creating together in teams.
This project was an in depth study into the effect and importance of collaboration. It helped me understand how my practice is ever evolving and how that impacts my collaborations with others.
