The way each of us interact with ourselves and the world around us plays a huge role in how we feel through our days. Being able to touch grass or feel a splash of water on our skin could awaken in us a sense of pure joy; or maybe even dread, depending on who we are. If a momentary touch can play such a big role in our mood, why should the accessories we adorn ourselves with be looked at as any different? The goal of “atiti” is to make those who choose us feel comfortable and confident. Making jewellery that speaks to you by actually speaking to you is how I would like to go about this. I want to figure out what colours, textures and mediums not only complement you but also make you feel like the best version of yourself. Mediums are the voice through which we, as designers and makers, speak. When creating custom pieces, we must remember that it is not us who is speaking, but the wearer. To fully understand what they want to say, we must first understand who they are. Having playful conversations with your materials and your client is one way to foster connections between product and owner but also between you, your creation and your client. We dived into working with materials and design laws in “Evocative Expression” and that has played a very clear, heavy role in my opinion about the process of choosing mediums and methods.
