Experimenting to experience is like becoming a child again, approaching tasks playfully without focusing on definite outcomes. This mindset allows me to enjoy the process, even if things don’t go as planned. Immersing myself in these experiences, successful or not, has been enlightening and helps me understand things better, especially in my liminal space. This approach has brought me closer to my goal of becoming a multidisciplinary designer, enabling me to see and create design from diverse perspectives. Using constraints like limited camera gear, such as a single lens or a phone, pushed me out of my comfort zone, fostering a deeper connection with my subjects. Crossing physical and metaphorical boundaries, questioning my beliefs, and learning to unlearn conventional techniques have enriched my creative process. Surrendering to the experience and embracing uncertainty allowed me to transcend my fears and create more meaningful work. Now, I’m more open to various ways of understanding, exploring, and executing projects. I finally feel like I’m at the end of the tunnel, with all my experiments shaping me into the filmmaker and visual designer I am today.
Throughout the 2 months of shooting my final film, I realised how all the things I learned through experimentation have allowed me to be carefree about my outputs for one whole year. This has helped me overcome many hurdles in my life – be it being anxious about talking to people or having constricted methodologies for my editing style in my filmmaking journey. I am now more open to various ways of understanding, exploring and executing in a project and I strongly believe that this will help me in my career. Now I finally feel like I’m at the end of the tunnel and how all the successful and failed experiments have made me the filmmaker I am.
