Contemporary Art Practice
I create out of necessity. I create because it is the only way I can understand worlds around me and within me, and how they both impact, influence and mould each other. To me, creating is not just a byproduct of being alive, but the only way I know how to live. All my artworks start within me, following the process of externalising the internal. In the last year I have explored and solidified aspects of my visual style, found my personal voice and used these learnings to interact and collaborate with other creative practitioners. I learned how to balance experimentation and consistency in my own practice, which allowed me to be a better collaborator. The pieces of work in this portfolio are a linear representation of that process, starting with a pure representation of that process, starting with a purely personal piece, moving towards incorporating collaboration into practice, and then having separate independent and collaborative practices. Each project takes the next step in my process of externalising the internal. This body of work has culminated in a strong personal practice, a growing collaborative practice and a framework for further creative collaborations which allow room for individual voices to be heard.
As a young creative professional about to enter the industry, my aim for my pgdp journey was to better understand, and expand upon my personal practice and to then understand how to monetise it. The process of discovery went from internal to external, from introspection to action. These three projects perfectly encapsulate my process, learnings and journey.
